25th Anniversary jersey

Role: Creative Direction, Design Lead

Tools Used: Photoshop, Illustrator

Context

Team Liquid’s 25th anniversary presented an opportunity to celebrate the organization’s history by creating a unique jersey design that would stand the test of time.

I led the creative direction and design of the commemorative jersey, developing a visual system that paid tribute to previous jerseys while introducing a new anniversary emblem.

Creative Direction

Initially I struggled to find a design that could encompass 25 years of history. Early concepts referenced legacy jersey patterns, historical branding elements, and designs from the Middle Ages before evolving into a cleaner, modern approach.

The new anniversary emblem was developed to honor the organization’s Dutch heritage while retaining the brand’s iconic horse symbol. We explored numerous options before finally settling on the final look.

Execution

The jersey was more than just an emblem. Finding the right cut, collar, fabric, and especially to complement the design was no small task. The biggest challenge was finding a design that paid homage to Team Liquid’s prior designs while still feeling unique and interesting.

Once the design was finalized turning it into a production-ready jersey required translating Photoshop mockups into scalable vector assets suitable for manufacturing. This meant close collaboration with the apparel team to ensure that the final garment would be something everyone could be proud of.

Final Design

After many iterations, feedback rounds, and last minute deadlines we eventually arrived at what I feel is a truly timeless and iconic design.

In a world of logos being constantly streamlined and simplified, this design really stands out. It has a sleek modern look while retaining small elements that nod to Team Liquid’s legacy, particularly the emblem.

Impact

The design was incredibly well-received by our fans, the esports community as a whole, as well as Team Liquid’s leadership. Later in 2025 we were honored to receive Esports Creative Campaign of the year from the Esports Awards. We even made it to the shortlist for the Clios Awards for the design of the crest itself, despite them notably not even having a dedicated design category.

For me personally, it was an opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and try something I had never done before. I can confidently say that seeing the overwhelming positive reception was one of the proudest moments of my career.
