Apparel Marketing

Role: Creative Direction, Design Lead

Tools Used: Photoshop

Context

Team Liquid has built a reputation for producing some of the most distinctive apparel collaborations in esports, partnering with major global intellectual properties including Marvel, Star Wars, Naruto, and Demon Slayer. Each collection represented an opportunity to reach audiences beyond traditional esports fans while reinforcing Team Liquid’s identity as a lifestyle brand within the industry.

Across these collaborations, I helped lead the creative direction for apparel marketing campaigns. My role involved working closely with production teams, marketing leads, and external partners to develop visual identities and promotional assets that supported each collection’s launch while maintaining a cohesive brand presence.

Creative Direction

Each collaboration presented a unique creative challenge because the campaign needed to honor the visual identity of the partner intellectual property while still feeling unmistakably connected to Team Liquid’s brand. Establishing the right balance between those two identities was central to the success of each launch.

Early in the process I worked with internal teams to establish the overall visual direction for the campaign. This included exploring visual references, developing moodboards, and defining how the apparel would be presented across photography and promotional graphics. Because many of these partnerships involved companies with strict brand guidelines, careful attention was given to ensuring that the visual direction respected those constraints while still feeling distinctive and engaging.

Execution

Once the creative direction was established, I worked with both the marketing and production teams to translate the concept into a full campaign. This often began with planning the visual approach for campaign photoshoots, identifying the environments, lighting, and compositions that would best highlight the apparel.

During production I collaborated with photographers and marketing leads to ensure that the visual direction remained consistent with the original concept. At the same time I developed the graphic systems that would support the campaign across social media and paid media placements. Because apparel launches often operate on tight timelines, the visual system needed to be flexible enough to allow assets to be produced quickly while still maintaining a cohesive identity across all channels.

Results

The resulting campaigns combined photography and graphic design to create a visual language that showcased the apparel while reinforcing both the Team Liquid brand and the identity of each collaboration partner. Each launch featured a collection of promotional graphics and photography that were used across social media, paid media campaigns, and announcement materials.

While each collaboration required its own visual tone, the campaigns were unified by a consistent approach to composition, typography, and brand integration. This allowed each collection to feel unique while still fitting within the broader ecosystem of Team Liquid’s apparel marketing.

Impact

These collaborations played a significant role in establishing Team Liquid’s reputation for producing some of the most recognizable and desirable apparel in esports. Working alongside globally recognized intellectual property holders also required navigating complex approval processes and adapting creative ideas to fit within strict brand frameworks.

Through these campaigns I developed a deeper understanding of how to balance creative ambition with the realities of working within large partnerships, ensuring that the final work remained visually compelling while meeting the expectations of both collaborators and fans.
